Character Spotlight: Martyr

Today we welcome the cosmically-powered, stalwart savior of the universe, Phyla-Vell — AKA Martyr — to MARVEL SNAP!

At the end of the game, move to a location that LOSES you the game. (if possible)

The cosmically-powered Phyla-Vell is known by many names — Captain Marvel, Quasar, and Martyr — but no matter her moniker, she’s always a protector of the universe.

Who is Martyr?

As the daughter of super heroes Elysius and Mar-vell, Phyla was built from greatness — genetically patterned after the Eternals of Titan.
In her efforts to protect the universe, Phyla-Vell battles cosmic entities, such as the universe-conquering Annihilus. She even makes deals with them if it’s in her benefit, such as the bargain she strikes with the Lord of the Outer Void Oblivion, to bring back her lover.
While carrying the moniker Quasar and wielding the Quantum Bands, Phyla-Vell teams up with Richard Rider, AKA Nova, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Galadorian Spaceknights to defeat Annihilus.

Powers & Abilities

Originally, Phyla-Vell possessed superhuman strength and the ability to channel energy — Enabling flight, discharging energy blasts, and absorbing energy directed at her to use for her own purposes.
Her current powers are undefined — due to her ability to tap into immense knowledge throughout space and time via cosmic awareness — Martyr has nearly limitless potential.
As Quasar, her powers are supplemented by the Quantum Bands, which she uses to manipulate the extradimensional Quantum Zone’s energies to create solid-energy constructs, including weapons and force fields, augment her powers, and protect herself from telepathic attacks.
She is also a proficient melee combatant, wielding a quantum sword which she forged with the Quantum Bands.

In MARVEL SNAP, Martyr’s effect faithfully reflects her self-sacrificial moniker:

At the end of the game, move to a location that LOSES you the game. (if possible)

While Phyla possesses great Power for her low Cost of 1 energy, you have to be careful when playing her as she may be able to make a move that loses you the game!
There are a number of ways to play around Martyr’s downside — Try pairing her with disabling effects like Zero’s or positioning her in ways that will mitigate your risks!
Martyr pairs especially well with strategies in which you want to fill up your board — Try adding her to a deck with the likes of Dazzler, Mojo, or Elsa Bloodstone!
